How to Organize Your Bathroom Cabinets
There are 4 simple steps we take when organizing any type of cabinet space. It’s important to have a process and a plan, otherwise things may feel a bit overwhelming.
1. Remove All Your Items from the Cabinets
First, remove all your items from the cabinets. This will give you blank slate when organizing your cabinets. You also will get a visual of how much space you actually have and how many products you have to fit in the space.
2. Purge Old or Unwanted Items
Once all your products are out of the cabinet, go through and purge items that are old, past their expiration date, or items you won’t use and wish to donate. Create a pile of those items, separate from the items you want to keep.
3. Write Out a Plan
Now that you’ve purged your unwanted and donated items, write or sketch a plan of how you wish organize your space.
Each bathroom cabinet may have different dimensions, so you’ll want to write those down to find products that will fit the space perfectly.
We like to roughly sketch our space, measure the dimensions of the bathroom cabinet and sketch an idea of items that will fit in the space.
4. Organize and Label
Finally, the fun part! By now, you have all your organization and storage products and are ready to put every items back in its place. You’ll want each tray, drawer or container to hold a different type of item.
One of the most important parts of this step in the process is to label each drawer based on the item. Some categories you could organize your items and create labels for are:
- Skin Care products
- Eye shadow palettes
- Mascara
- Lipsticks & Chapsticks
- Foundation and Creams
- Blush & Bronzers
- Miscellaneous Makeup
- Miscellaneous Skincare
- Body Care Products
- Makeup remover Towels
- Towels
- Hand Towels
- Wash Cloths
- Back-stock Items (Extra items you have when you run out)
8 Clever Bathroom Cabinet Organization Ideas
1. Small Bathroom Cabinet Organization
Living in a house or apartment with small cabinet storage can get annoying, but good organization is the key to making the space you have functional. Adding narrow acrylic drawers makes your cabinets look larger and gives your items a home.
Adhering a small acrylic cup organizer to the inside of your cabinet door creates the perfect place for makeup brushes too.
2. Lazy Suzan for Skincare Products
Do you have an excessive amount of skin care products like we do? If so, you may want to try out this organization hack!
This acrylic lazy suzan is so sleek and clean, and creates a showcase for all your skincare products. This will allow you to get rid of all the unnecessary clutter across your bathroom counter and make your space look organized and fresh.
3. Makeup Drawer Organizer
If we could choose to organize one thing in our bathroom it would be our makeup. One thing that irritates us the most is when makeup products are jumbled together, and when there’s products and powder everywhere. It makes it impossible to find the one thing you need.
Keeping your makeup organized also prevents makeup from spilling or breaking. Designating a drawer just for your makeup is a great way to keep things in place and make them easily accessible.
Try adding wooden or acrylic organization trays for your different types of products. Choosing one material for your drawer makes the storage space look sleek and clean.
4. Bathroom Linen Closet Organization
Bathroom linen closets can get cluttered if you don’t have a good organization system. You may even store other items besides linens in this cabinet (like medicine, cleaning products etc.) and those items need a home too.
To conceal some of those items, we recommend using woven baskets. On the shelves that aren’t storing this items, keep your neatly folded towels, hand towels and wash cloths for easy access.
5. Under-sink Bathroom Organization
When we moved into our small apartment, one of our biggest cabinets in our bathroom was the one under the sink. We had to think about how we could strategically organize the space the make it functional for us and to maximize the space.
Getting drawer organizers (like the ones below) was one of the best ways to organize our space. They fit each side of the sink perfectly. Add some cute labels to the front of the drawers, and you have a perfectly organize space.
6. Hair Tools Organization
In our opinion, hair tools are the most obnoxious items to keep organized. The chords on the hair tools, if not wrapped around and placed in a bucket neatly, always seem to get magically tangled.
That’s why we love this hair tool organization hack! It’s as simple as adding some deep acrylic trays to a bathroom drawer and placing the different tools in their own respective tray.
7. Large Cabinet Organization
Maybe you don’t have a small bathroom. Maybe you have a large bathroom with a huge cabinet that has a ton of space the work with. We know that that can be quite daunting organizing a space that big, but there are ways to make it super practical and functional, no matter the amount of space you have to fill.
First, we recommend buying acrylic or mesh wire bins to store your products.
Second, place back stock (items you have extra of) or less frequently used items on the top shelves. On the bottom two or three shelves, you’ll want to place the times that you use regularly.
8. Medicine Cabinet Organization
Organizing your medicine in a designated cabinet is important to do. If you don’t already have a designated area for all your medicine, using an empty cabinet could be a solute. Add clear acrylic drawers that will fit inside your cabinet and label them with the respective labels. Some categories you could organize your medicine into are:
- Allergy
- Cough
- Cold/Flu
- Prescriptions
- Pain
- Cuts & Burns
- Bandaids and Gauze
