This Fresh Zucchini Baked Feta Pasta is our twist on the popular “TikTok Pasta”. A delicious blend of creamy feta cheese, orecchiette frigate pasta, cherry tomatoes, onion, zucchini, olive oil and topped with a squeeze of lemon juice and basil.
We don’t take inspiration from TikTok for recipes almost ever, but when we saw the popular “Tiktok Pasta” several months ago, we knew we had to create our own version of it! We’re a bit late to the party, but this is one recipe we know will never go out of style!
In our opinion, we thought the original recipe was a bit bland. For our twist on the pasta, we wanted to add more depth in flavor with fresh zucchini, onion, seasonings, and a squeeze of lemon juice to top it off.
If you’ve tried the viral pasta before, we’re confident you’ll love this recipe even more! It’s so flavorful, fresh and delicious! You’ll be going back fro seconds or thirds!
This post is all about fresh zucchini backed feta pasta.
Fresh Zucchini Baked Feta Pasta
What’s in this recipe?
Feta Cheese: The feta cheese is the star of this pasta dish! It gives the pasta a delicious creamy, tangy, cheesy flavor.
Orecchiette Pasta: We love experimenting with new pasta noodles in our recipe, and thought this pasta would look so pretty with the mix of vegetables.
Cherry Tomatoes: As the cherry tomatoes cook, they burst and add all their delicious flavor in the pasta mixture.
Zucchini: We love the flavor of zucchini in pasta, and thought this would be such a delicious addition to the recipe. We cut it into small bite size pieces, so you could get zucchini in every bite.
Red Onion: The red onion adds a delicious flavor to the pasta and pairs well with the feta and other vegetables in the dish.
Garlic: Every pasta recipe needs a little bit of garlic. Free, minced garlic always adds so much flavor!
Olive Oil: Olive oil is what the vegetable and feta cook in and gives the zucchini baked feta pasta a light, delicious flavor.
Oregano: Oregano brightens the flavor palette and adds a bit of freshness to the dish.
Red Pepper Flakes: We could add red pepper flakes to just about any dinner meal, but just a pinch of red pepper gives the pasta a bit of a kick.
Salt and Pepper: Salt and pepper is essential for seasoning the pasta.
Pasta Water: The pasta water may or not be needed depending on the consistency that’s create. We didn’t need to add any to our dish, but if you want to create a saucier texture, you can add a little bit of pasta water at a time until it reaches the consistency you like.
Lemon Juice: Lemon juice also helps to brighten the dish and a bit is squeezed over the pasta before serving.
Basil: We love adding fresh basil to pasta and other dishes when we can. It makes the dish more vibrant and is a beautiful garnish.
How to Make the Zucchini Baked Feta Pasta
This dish is so simple to make, and it’s quickly become a favorite for our family!
To start, you’ll want to preheat your oven to 400°F.
Chop Your Vegetables…
We always recommend creating a mise en place of all your ingredients when your cooking or baking a recipe. A mise en place is when you measure out all your ingredients into small bowls and chop any vegetables or fruits before beginning.
To create your mise en place for this recipe, chop your zucchini, red onion, and garlic. Then measure and set all the other ingredients on the list to the side.
Bake the Feta and Vegetables…
Next, in a casserole dish (we love this set of baking dishes), add feta cheese in the center, and the rest of the chopped vegetables around the cheese. Add the olive oil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper to the vegetables. Stir the seasoning and oil over the vegetables around the feta block. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the tomatoes have burst open and the zucchini and onions are soft.
Make the Pasta…
As the vegetables are cooking in the oven, make the pasta according to the instructions on the box. We chose the orrecchiette frigate pasta and love how beautiful it looks in the recipe.
Once the vegetables and feta are done cooking, gently stir the feta and the vegetables together. The feta should melt and easily mix with the vegetables. Then, fold the pasta into the cheesy mixture. If the consistency is still too thick or dry, add the reserve pasta water. Top the dish with basil.
Top the zucchini baked feta pasta with a bit of lemon juice and basil. Serve at a casual dinner party with friends or family, or for a delicious weeknight meal! Enjoy!
