Cleaning our apartment makes the space feel so fresh, and there is something so therapeutic about cleaning off surfaces, sweeping the floors and vacuuming our carpets. Ever since we lived in a dorm room in college, we have been so adamant about keeping our space clean.
Over the years of living in several different apartments, we have accumulated a list of all the areas in your space to clean. We literally go through this list when we want to thoroughly deep clean our apartment.

How Often Should You Deep Clean Your Apartment?
You may be wondering, “How often should I really deep clean my apartment?” We recommend deep cleaning your apartment once every month.
We clean our apartment every week, but we follow this apartment cleaning checklist once every month, because it requires more extensive tasks.

The Best Apartment Cleaning Tips
1. Have a Plan or Checklist of Tasks
Whether you write out tasks on a piece of paper or are using our apartment cleaning checklist, having a plan or list of tasks to complete is always a good idea.
This is like a to-do list but it has only to do with cleaning your apartment. We have found that if we don’t have a list of tasks to do before we deep clean, we sporadically go from room to room without an organized plan.
That’s why we created our apartment cleaning checklist, because it goes room-by-room and is super organized.
2. Make Cleaning Fun
We mentioned above that deep cleaning is one of our favorite things to do. This may sound insane, but we didn’t always feel this strongly about cleaning.
Growing up, we used to dread cleaning with our mom, but we know see it as a way to create a productive and inspiring space to live in. When we clean our space, our space feels so fresh and motivates us to keep it clean.
One way to have fun while we are cleaning is to turn on our favorite playlist of music or a podcast. We find that when we listen to one of the two, doesn’t make cleaning a chore. Once you’re finished cleaning your apartment, you can sit back and admire how sparkling clean it is!
3. Have a Cleaning Supplies Caddy
If you don’t have a cleaning supplies caddy, you NEED one! It’s the easiest and best ways to keep your cleaning products organized.
We have a lazy suzan style cleaning caddy, and it makes it so easy to find the items we need. We keep all our cleaning supplies in our laundry room. Having one place to house all our cleaning supplies makes it super easy to grab the caddy and use it when needed.
4. Use Natural Cleaning Products
Over the past year, we have transitioned to natural cleaning products. When we would clean our apartment with strong chemicals, we began to feel like they would make cleaning worse.
Cleaning with strong chemicals, we began to cough a lot during and after we cleaned. We began to notice that the strong chemicals weren’t pleasant to inhale and be in contact with.
Since we switched to natural cleaning products, we don’t have any issues and they somehow make our air feel more purified and cleaner. We never we want to go back to using the strong chemicals unless absolutely necessary.

These are some of our favorite cleaning products to use in our home when we spring clean. We are always looking for the most natural and gentle products to use in our home. These are staples we always have handy.
Mrs. Meyers Surface Cleaning Spray
We use this surface spray all day, multiple times a day. It smells so good, and cleans surfaces so well! It comes in multiple scents. Our favorite every-day scent is Basil, but we always look forward to the seasonal scents every year!
Seventh Generation Free & Clear Natural Liquid Laundry Detergent
We have found that more natural detergents have been gentler on our clothes in the washing cycle and are just as effective. This detergent won’t irritate your skin and has zero synthetic fragrances or artificial brighteners.
Mr. Clean Extra Durable Erasers
If you haven’t cleaned your home with these in the past, you need to add this to your list of cleaning supplies. They are pure magic and will clean stubborn stains and grime without all the hassle.
Cinnamon Essential Oil
Essential oils are our favorite, natural cleaning product to use to freshen our air. If you live in an apartment, essential oils diffuse so strongly in your space, because it is a smaller space. Cinnamon is one of our favorite scents any time of the year. It makes it smell so warm and cozy.
Multi-surface Microfiber Cleaning Cloths
Microfiber cloths are our cleaning towel of choice, and we have been using them for years! The best part about them is that they are washable and reusable after each use.
Vitruvi Stone Diffuser
This diffuser is on the pricer side, but we find that spending a little bit more on a diffuser reassures us we won’t have to buy as many over the years. We know this one will last for multiple years! It’s perfect for burning essential oils, especially the cinnamon one above!
