Cauliflower, often seen as a discarded vegetable side dish finally has its shining moment in these orange cauliflower bowls!! We really didn’t know cauliflower could taste THIS good!

Orange Cauliflower Bowls

Fresh cauliflower sautéed in a vibrant, tangy orange sauce over a bed of white rice and topped with fresh orange slices, green onions and cashews. A delicious and cozy weeknight dinner at home or for a friends night on the weekend.

You my be thinking…cauliflower is not the same as chicken. You’re right, it’s not!! But it does have a lot of flavor and good nutrients. And once it tossed in the orange chicken sauce, you may be rethinking cauliflowers place at the table!

These orange cauliflower bowls are a refreshing take on the traditional orange chicken that is bursting with flavor. And you better double the batch, because you will keep coming back for more!

What’s in the orange cauliflower sauce?

  • Soy sauce: A very important ingredient ingredient in the sauce to add saltiness. Soy sauce has a nice flavor and good amount of saltiness so  you won't need to add any additional salt to the sauce.
  • Sesame oil - Adds a savory, nutty taste to the sauce.
  • Vegetable broth: Adds more substance to the sauce. Vegetable broth pairs best with the orange cauliflower, but bone broth, chicken or beef broth can work just fine if it is the only thing you have on hand.
  • Honey - For sweetness and adds a bit of thickness to the sauce.
  • Orange juice and zest - It wouldn’t be orange chicken without the orange. The zest holds a lot of flavor and adds a punch of orange flavor to the sauce.
  • Rice Vinegar: Adds a tangy flavor to the sauce.
  • Fresh ginger: Gives the sauce a kick of spice and heat! Fresh ginger is so strong in flavor and seriously makes this so good!! If you don't have fresh ginger on hand, you can use ground ginger, but it won't have the same strength of spice. If you are using ground ginger, use 1/2 tsp.
  • Red pepper flakes: Just a dash of red pepper flakes for more spice.
  • Five Spice powder: This spice is a blend of 5 spices : star anise, fennel, cinnamon Szechuan peppercorn, cinnamon and cloves. It adds such a beautiful flavor to the sauce.
