I can’t believe it’s time to start thinking about fall decor (in the midst of summer), but it’s here, and I’m actually really excited. As I’ve gotten older, the lore of celebrating the fall season just gets better with every year, and thinking about it earlier this year doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m a fall girlie through and through.
When I’m decorating for a new season, I always start with the living room. It’s the epicenter of the home and where everyone gathers, so it makes the most sense to deck that space out in fall decor first. I took a deep dive on the internet to find the cutest fall decor that’ll make your living room feel like a warm hug.
From fall garlands adorning the fireplace mantel, adding cozy textures and warming your space with orange, yellow and tan hues. There are so many easy ways to work with a fall palette and bring a seasonal feel to your living room.

The Must-Have Living Room Decor I Always Swap for Any Season
When it comes to decorating my living room for a new season or holiday, at the bare minimum, I do several decorative swaps in my space. These are all super simple and relatively inexpensive to do, while adding a cozy aesthetic to your living room.
- Seasonal Decorative Pillows: Swapping year-round decorative pillows with seasonal pillows is a super way to instantly make your living room match the season. Tones like burgundy, caramel, golden yellows and deep reds add warmth to your space.
- Cozy Blanket: Add a cozy blanket to the end of your couch or on an accent chair for a decorative touch and easy grab if you plan to cuddle up and binge-watch a show.
- Add Decor to The Cozy Table: Your coffee table is at the center of your living room, so taking a moment to swap out a few of the decorative items with fall-themed items is a great way to make your seasonal decor more cohesive in your space. Add some autumn blooms or fall stems to a vase to create a fall vibe.
- Swap Decor on Shelves: If you have bookshelves in your living room, adding a few pumpkins, fall candles, and other fall decorative accents to the shelf will make your living room feel even more festive.
- Fireplace Decor: Decorate your mantel for the fall season. Add some fall garland, a large fall art pring and some taper candles for the ultimate autumn aesthetic.

Fall Decorative Pillows
Like I mentioned above, swapping pillow covers and decorative pillows is the easiest way to add a fall touch to your living room without too much effort. There are so many adorable patterns and prints, too.Â
Whether you’re looking for a minimal velvet pillow, a warm floral pillow cover, or a cute fall-scene pillow, any of these pillows will set the tone for the decor look you’re going for in your space.
Cozy Throw Blankets
Throw blankets are something I have in my living room year-round (mostly because I’m a chronic blanket-wearer). However, when the weather gets colder, I’m in need of a thicker, warmer blanket.
These blankets are perfect swaps for the season, because they are warm, fall tones, and sporting the print of the season — fall plaid. Plus, when you aren’t using them, throw them in a woven basket for a cozy decorative touch.
Autumn Coffee Table Decor
The epicenter of a living room seating area is the coffee table, so why not make it a whole moment? Swap out your summer vase and florals for an artistic brown vase and some fall foliage. Place a pumpkin candle in with the mix for a gorgeous glow. You could even add some more natural elements — like leaf-shaped wood coasters and potpourri.

Warm-Scented Fall Candles
A living room is not complete without a fall candle. It has a way of christening the room for a new season with its scent. I’m probably biased, but fall is the elite season for candle scents. There is everything from sweet pumpkin scents to cinnamon apple and warm coffee scents to fill your home with. Ugh, it’s just too good — you can’t go wrong with anything you choose.
Other Fun Fall Living Room Touches
If you’re looking for other ways to add a cozy aesthetic to your living room for fall, maybe think of adding a cute decorative mirror, some patterned curtains, pumpkin-shaped flameless candles or a new table lamp to your space. These small tweaks can make all the difference in creating a cohesive autumnal design.
