If you’re anything like us, you LOVE a good deal! Creating high-end designs on a limited budget is our kryptonite. We truly don’t think there is anything better than getting an insanely good deal and making a space feel luxurious and expertly curated.

One of our absolute favorite designers is Shea McGee, the founder for Studio McGee and McGee & Co. We love her blend of modern, traditional, and coastal style that makes every space she designs bright, youthful and beautiful.

We thought it would be fun to challenge ourselves to take one of her gorgeous living room designs and show you how you can create the look on a budget. With just $2000, we’re showing you how you can create a contemporary-traditional living room in you space!

What’s our budget for the design?

For this living room design, we chose a budget of $2000. If you’ve ever bought living room furniture, you know that sofas, accent chairs and media console will take up the budget real quick.

When we moved into our first apartment, we spent around (if not more) than $2,000 to make our living room exactly how we wanted it. We knew that keeping the budget at $2000 was still a challenge in itself and was a pretty reasonable budget for new home owners and first time apartment renters.

Whether you’re moving into your new apartment, home or are looking to update your current living room, we hope this provides you inspiration for your space as you design on a budget.

The Inspiration for the Design

This was the Studio McGee living room design we are taking inspiration from. The blue sofa is what stuck out to us in this design, and we instantly knew that we had to find a way to create the look of this room for less!

The Design Mood Board

Once we found sourced all the items for the design, we created this mood board for the space.

We love creating mood boards for spaces to get a sense of what the furniture would look all together. It’s a great, non-permanent way to mix and match different styles and items until you know you’ve created the perfect design!
