We’re showing you all the home office desk decor we bought to make our home office the perfect place to work and stay motivated.
If you’ve been following along with us on our Instagram stories, you may have seen us working on building our built-in desk. Let’s just say it’s taken us way longer that we had planned to create this space. With all the set backs, we are finally ready to reveal how we decorated our desk (complete built-in desk reveal coming soon)!
From the beginning, we wanted to make this built-in desk DIY project as cost effective as possible. We knew we didn’t want to spend a ton of money, so we looked for the best deals and shopped at some of our favorite resell stores.
We’re going to show you how we decorated the space, where we bought our home office desk decor, and hopefully inspire you to create a similar look in your space!
This post is all about home office desk decor.
Home Office Desk Decor on a Budget
Our Built-In Home Office Design
This was our initial design and inspiration for our space. Before we start any project, we like to make a mood board and a rough design.
One of the easiest ways for us to create a rough design for a space is with Canva. It’s definitely not the perfect way of creating a design for a space, but it gives us a vision of what the space could look like.
Our design style for this space was more traditional, with a few modern elements. We love blending traditional and modern style and then adding some fun prints to bring personality into a space.
Our Budget for the Home Office Desk Decor
When we design a space, whether that be for ourself or for our clients, we always create several categories of budgets—including a decor budget, building materials budget, and an overall budget.
This is our home office decor budget. We wanted to keep the decor budget below $300, but we knew we wanted to keep the budget as low as possible. That may seem like a lot of money for decor (and it is), but good quality decor adds up.
Most, if not all, the items we bought for this space were on sale, discounted, bought from a resell store or were items we already owned. We made frequent visits to Habitat for Humanity Resale Store, Goodwill and searched Facebook Marketplace for the best deals on counter stools.
We really were intentional on how we spent our money and made sure that each item was perfect for the design.
In the end, we spent $216. We absolutely love how the space turned out and were happy to keep our home office decor below budget!
All the Home Office Desk Decor We Bought
We know we love when other people share where they found decor items for their space, especially when they were able to find them for cheaper. So, we are going to show you everything we bought, where we bought it and where you can buy the same (or similar) items.
Again, a lot of these items were found at Goodwill or other resale sites, so we tried our best to find similar items if we couldn’t find the actual items online. We highly recommend looking on Facebook Marketplace to find furniture and other home decor for discounted prices!

How We Decorated Our Home Office
Like we mentioned above, our design style for this space was traditional, with contemporary modern elements. We wanted the decor on the desk to reflect that and each area of the space to have it’s own individual moment.
Left Corner of the Desk:
For the left corner of the desk, we knew we decided to mount the framed print onto the wall. Just like the initial design indicated, we added the gorgeous modern concrete book ends on either side of our favorite home design books and cookbooks. Then we placed a ceramic vase that we got at goodwill and added flowers to the vase.
Right Corner of the Desk:
In the right corner, we opted for a bigger print and leaned it against the wall. We did this, because we chose to mount the an art print and bulletin board on either side of it. Leaning the art print helps to break up the space and make it more visually interesting.
In addition to the art print, we added a grey ceramic lamp and candle.
End of the Desk:
At the end of the desk, we added a pinboard. We love adding pinboards to home offices or small office nooks, because it provides an inspirational moment in your space. You can pin ideas and constantly change out the look of it depending on your different seasons or projects.
Additionally, we added a file folder and a plant to the end of the built-in desk.
Desktop Decor:
Since our desk has room for three people to sit and work, we placed oatmeal-colored faux leather placements at each space. This provides a designated work space for each person and looks gorgeous as well!
Stay tuned for the complete reveal of the space! We’ll explain every detail of how we built the built in desk, where we got the hardware for the space (for a STEAL!) and the final touches we added to complete the space.
