The Absolute Best Copycat Starbucks Matcha Lemonade to Make at Home

Do you love a nice refreshing drink in the summer? Starbucks always creates some of the best iced teas for summer. We often find ourselves stopping by on a hot, summer day to pick up a Matcha Lemonade, however we never realized what we were actually consuming!

First, what is matcha?

Matcha is made from ground green tea leaves. The tea leaves are ground into a fine green powder, whisked in hot water and ready-to-serve drink. It has a bitter grassy taste, but it pairs so well with sweet lemonade, coconut milk or creamy oat milk.

Does matcha have caffeine?

Matcha does have caffeine, and actually has more than double the amount of caffeine as green tea. For every 8oz of caffeine, there are nearly 70 mg of caffeine. One benefit of the caffeine from matcha, as opposed to drinking coffee, is that it gives you more energy for longer. With each cup of matcha, it provides you 4-6 hours of energy.

Is matcha lemonade good for you?

It’s shocking to see how much sugar and unnecessary ingredients are added in Starbucks drinks. As much as we love to drink them, we were shocked to find out how much sugar was in the Matcha Lemonade we had been buying.

In a grande Matcha Lemonade there is a total of 27 grams of sugar! To put into perspective how much that is…that is more added sugar than the average woman should have in a day (25 grams of added sugar being a recommended serving per day).

Once we found out how much added sugar was in the drink, we knew we had to find a healthier alternative, so we decided to make the drink our selves! We created a copycat Starbucks Matcha Lemonade with only 8 grams of added sugar! This matcha lemonade is so much better for you than the Starbucks matcha lemonade. Not to mention, it tastes exactly like it!

What’s the best type of matcha for this recipe?

We always love to use a higher grade of matcha, but one that is still affordable. The packet of matcha we buy from Amazon is so delicious, a premium grade and will give you all the benefits matcha provides. If you choose to use a lesser grade of matcha, that’s completely okay, but you may just not feel the benefits of it as much.

Why we prefer making matcha lemonade at home

We prefer making this Starbucks Matcha Lemonade at home, because it saves us time and money and is way healthier than the drink they would serve you at Starbucks.

We also love the ritual fo making and creating the drink ourselves. It’s fun and calming for us to make a drink to sip on while we work or while we unwind.

This drink is not only refreshing for summer, but is a great way to boost your energy in the afternoon! It’s super simple to make and takes only 5 minutes to whip up! This would be a perfect drink to make for a summer party with friends as well!
