Is 90’s red coming back? We think so, but with a more modern twist!

Lately, red kitchens have been trending on Pinterest, and we’re slightly obsessed. We came across the picture below and couldn’t get it out of our heads. The burgundy cabinets were absolutely stunning, and added such a cozy touch to the home.

For this virtual design, we wanted to create the same cozy, classic feel, but with a modern twist. The burgundy cabinets would be the star feature in the kitchen, and the black marble counters, wood floors and decorative details would add complimentary texture and design to the space.

We’re sharing all the details of the design below and how you can create a similar look in your home!

The Breakfast Nook

Walking into the space, to the left you’ll see an upholstered banquet. We around an oval table to the space to make it feel more open and some modern, upholstered dining chairs. To compliment the black hardware in the kitchen, we added a gorgeous iron chandelier that floats above the table.

To the large back wall, we installed a gorgeous gold wall art piece. It warms up the space and incorporates a bold modern statement.

The Two Toned Cabinets

Continuing into the kitchen, we wanted the red to really pop, so a two toned cabinetry situation was a must.

The star of show is obviously the burgundy cabinets, which we paired with chrome hardware. To create some visual interest in the space, we made the island a creamy white and added black hardware. Mixing and matching the colors and metals made the design feel curated and thoughtfully designed.

To add more warmth and character to the space, we flanked each side of the small kitchen window with open shelves, stained a slightly darker color than the the flooring.

The white metal range hood and appliances add a modern feel to the space as and are stunning accent pieces that coordinate well with the white island cabinetry.

The Coffee Bar

Being coffee addicts ourselves, we understand the necessity of a coffee bar in a kitchen. No matter how big or small of a kitchen you have, we believe a designated coffee station should be in it.

Since this kitchen is a generous size, we wanted to utilize as much space as we were given. The small wall space on the other side of the stunning, expansive window made the perfect place for the coffee bar.

Additionally, we added a couple of floating shelves above the coffee bar to carry the warmth into the space and provide convenient storage for coffee mugs and decorative items.

We are absolutely obsessed with how this kitchen design turned out! It’s definitely inspired us to take more risk with beautiful, classic color pallets and modernize them to feel young, vibrant and fresh!
