Mistake 1: We Started on the Wrong Platform

We had no idea what we were doing when we first started our blog, but we knew we wanted to get it up and running. We had seen a lot of advertisements for Squarespace, so we just decided to start our blog using it as our platform.

At first, we liked Squarespace. It’s an easy-to-use platform. Our blog looked aesthetically pleasing and we were having fun.

But then, we hit a roadblock. We realized that if we actually wanted to make money and start a career as a blogger, we needed more features that Squarespace didn’t provide. We knew we needed to change, but we were fearful of all the work it would take to switch platforms.

After hours of research, we discovered what platform we needed to create a successful blog.

Mistake 2: We Didn’t Know How to Write a Proper Blog Post

We spent hours writing blog posts about ourselves. We would write personal posts about our lives, and although some people may have related to them, these type of posts weren’t going to get us the traffic we wanted.

It took us months to realize that we needed to start writing posts that helped our readers. We quickly found out, our blog could not be about us, but to help others.

In the beginning phases of our blog, Pinterest didn’t even cross our minds. Again, we had no idea what it took to be a blogger at this point.

What we didn’t know was that Pinterest could exponentially grow our blog traffic that would send thousands to our site—which would in turn help us make sales and earn money.

Starting a blog is possible to do with little or no money. After making the mistakes we made, we realized that the process didn’t have to be as hard as it was for us, but we saw a gap in the system.

When we first started our blog, we spent money on random platforms and ecommerce sites that weren’t beneficial to us. We wasted a lot of time trying to understand how to use WordPress and set up our site for success.
