One thing about us is that we are going to host a party for every season and occasion. With Christmas quickly approaching we’re trying our hand at a different type of party this year. This year, we’re skipping the traditional Christmas party and throwing a Friendsmas party. We’re gathering our closest friends, making delicious holiday food, playing games and making the most of the time spent together.

If you’re wanting to host a Friendsmas party of your own, we’ve got you covered. We’ve rounded up the best hosting tips, holiday party foods ideas and more to help you pull off the ultimate Friendsmas party of the year.

1. Send Invitations

First things first, send out your invitations to your friends. How you choose to do this is totally up to you. You can send physical invitations in the mail, e-vites or text messages.

We love sending paper invitations. There’s just something nostalgic and special about getting an invite in your mail. The invitations designs are so adorable and would be such a fun surprise to receive.

2. Select Your Menu

The thing we look most forward to when hosting parties is planning the menu. Christmas may be the most fun holiday to plan for, because of all the delicious, cozy entrees and Christmas treats that you can make. Everything from cozy soups, hot pizzas, Christmas cookies, candies and more.

To make things easier, go potluck style. Have your guests sign up and bring a specific item, so you can focus on getting other things together.

3. Set the Scene

While your home may already be decorated for Christmas, there are some additional Christmas decorations you can add to make it special for your Friendsmas party.

For table settings, opt for a gorgeous Christmas print table cloth, decorate with festive holiday plates and glasses for an elegant touch.

To add some festive cheer to the rest of your home, you can add festive garland, balloons and lights to hang. All of these things will bring your space to life and make it special for the occasion.

4. Play Holiday Music

Music truly sets the tone of a party, so for Christmas it’s nonnegotiable — you have to play Christmas music.

Whether you want to play cozy Christmas music, classic Christmas music or holiday hots, it’s totally up to you and the vibe you want to bring to your space.

5. Plan Games and Activities

White Elephant Gift Exchange: This is a classic activity to do at a Christmas party. Have all your friends bring a white elephant gift to exchange and follow the white elephant exchange rules. Read more about how to play white elephant HERE.

Christmas Candy Guessing Jar: Fill a mason jar with Christmas candy (M&Ms, Hershey candy, holiday Reeses etc.) and have each guest guess how many candies are in the jar. Whoever is the closest wins the jar of candy.

Cookie Decorating Contest: Have sugar cookies, piping bags and icing ready to go for your friends to decorate their cookies. Have a few friends judge the cookies and rank the winners.

Christmas Mug Painting: Painting Christmas mugs with your friends that everyone will enjoy and take home something they will cherish for years to come.

Watch a Christmas Movie: There are so many different Christmas movies to choose from. After you and your friends have enjoyed a dinner, gather in your living room with blankets and Christmas treats to watch a Christmas movie. Here are some of our favorite Christmas movies:

  • Last Christmas
  • Christmas with the Kranks
  • National Lampoons: Christmas Vacation
  • Polar Express
  • Santa Clause 1,2,3
  • A Christmas Story
  • Home Alone
  • Elf
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas
  • Love Actually
  • The Holiday
  • The Family Stone
  • It’s a Wonderful Life
  • Four Christmases

Play Board Games: We love pulling out our favorite board games to play with friends. Whether it’s Scategories, Cards Against Christmas or Christmas bingo, any one will create fun memories and laughter.

Christmas Trivia: Separate into two or three teams and play Christmas trivia. This is always a competitive and fun game to play.

Christmas Right-Left Game: One of our favorite holiday traditions that we’ve done since we were in elementary school is playing a right-left game. Whether it’s a small ornament or gift you pass around, have a moderator share the story. Anytime they say left or right you pass the gift to the left or right of you. Whoever ends up with the gift in their hands at the end of the story wins the gift.

6. Choose Party Favors

We always love sending our guests home with some type of party favor. Whether it’s a baked treat or a small gift. Giving them something as they walk out the door, will show them how much you appreciate them coming to celebrate the holiday with you.
