How to Host a Spring Doormat Painting Party

Spring is approaching, and that means the time of year that’s filled with florals, outdoor projects, and deep cleaning my home. However, the one thing I love most in spring is hosting friends over for all sorts of occasions. Whether it’s an outdoor garden party, an Easter brunch, or just for a fun girls’ night in, there’s so much positive energy spring gives. I love soaking it all in.

One type of party I plan to host this spring is a spring doormat painting party. It’s such a fun way to get together with friends, craft, and catch up. After all, everyone needs a cute spring doormat after a cold winter. 

If you’re like me and need any excuse to gather your girls for a fun night in, it’s time to start planning. Below, I’m showing you how to host a spring doormat painting party — including all the supplies, fun spring treats to serve, and doormat design ideas to be inspired by.

How to Host a Spring Doormat Painting Party

1. Send Out Invites

Since this is a casual, low-key party, I recommend sending out virtual invitations. There are so many adorable card designs that you can customize and text to your friends. Here are a few cards that would work perfectly for a spring-themed party.

2. Gather Your Doormat Painting Essentials

Whether you supply everyone with a mat and supplies or have everyone bring their materials for the party is up to you and your budget. We suggest that everyone bring a plain outdoor mat to the party, along with any other stamps or embellishments they prefer. You can purchase mats for as low as $7 at Target.

Here are the items you’ll need to host a doormat painting party:

• Coir Doormat: You’ll want to buy a plain coir doormat to give you a blank canvas to paint on.
• Outdoor Craft Paint: craft paint that’s meant to paint objects left to the outside elements is a must for making sure your doormat stays in pristine condition.
• Shape Stencils: Make sure you have stencils that go along with the spring theme. For example, flowers, bees, bunny rabbits, etc.
• Letter Stencils: Letter stencils are great to have too if you want to add a phrase or words on your fall doormat.
• Paint Supplies: Don’t forget the paint supplies! We like to go as cheaply as we can here, because it’s not essential to get the most expensive items. You’ll need some plates to add the paint to, paint brushes and sponges, depending on the method, water cups, and napkins for the accidental spill or clean up of paint.
• Tablecloth: A cheap paper or plastic tablecloth to cover the table or floor is essential. Make sure you have enough tablecloths on hand to spread out so everyone has a good work station and room to move about.
• Outdoor Scotchgard: Scotchgard spray is a great protectant and sealant to spray on your outdoor mat after the paint has dried and you’re ready to place it outside your front door. It’s not a necessary step, but it is something to consider if you want to keep your doormat in good condition all season long.

3. Serve Spring-Themed Treats

Anytime I host my friends over, I love making food to match the occasion. Since you’re making a spring craft, spring-themed treats are a must. You can get as creative with the menu as you would like. Some of my favorite spring recipes to make are banana pudding, carrot cake, or even a fun charcuterie board.

4. Add Some Spring Ambience

It’s all in the decoration and music when creating the perfect spring ambience. Add a spring tablecloth to your craft table, hang some spring-themed garland around your home, and decorate with florals. To tie the aesthetic together, we love playing cheerful throwback music in the background. Whatever you decide to do, this is your time to get creative and have fun!
