How to Make Baked Hot Honey Wings, Step by Step

Step 1. Preheat oven, prep baking sheet, and seasonings.

Start by preheating your oven to 425ºF. We also recommend lining a baking sheet with parchment paper; that way, you have your baking sheet ready to load up with wings and bake in the oven.

Measure out your seasonings and flour mixture and whisk to combine. The paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper will add some extra flavor to the chicken as it cooks.

Step 2. Pat the chicken wings dry and coat them in seasoning.

Pat each chicken wing with a clean paper towel to remove any moisture on the outside. If there is moisture on the surface of the chicken wings, the coating could clump together. Drying them will make sure that there is an even coating on the wings.

Place the seasoned chicken wings on your parchment-lined baking sheet. Make sure they are separated by 1-2 inches on each side.

Step 3. Make hot honey glaze while the chicken bakes in the oven.

Pop the chicken wings in the oven to bake for about 15 minutes on each side, flipping them over halfway through. Flipping the chicken wings over makes them crispy on both sides.

While the chicken is in the oven, start making your glaze. Add your glaze ingredients to a medium-sized bowl and whisk everything together. Pour the glaze into a saucepan and heat over medium heat for about 10 minutes until it thickens.

Step 4. Glaze wings in hot honey sauce and enjoy!

After the wings come out of the oven, use a pastry brush to coat the entire surface of the wings with hot honey glaze. Finish with a drizzle of extra honey and a sprinkle of parsley for a pretty garnish.

Best if served hot!!

Tips for Making Baked Chicken Wings

  • Glaze the chicken right after baking. When you are glazing the chicken with sticky glaze, you want to brush the chicken with the glaze when they are hot so that the glaze will melt and coat the chicken.
  • Flip wings half way through to crisp both sides. If you don’t, the underside will be soggy. To crisp and dry up any moisture that has dripped off the chicken, flip them over 15 minutes through to crisp both sides.
  • Garnish with a pop of color. We recommend sprinkling with chopped parsley or red pepper flakes for presentation and an extra pop of color.

How do I know my chicken is done cooking?

Your chicken will be cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF. You can check the temperature with a meat thermometer. Make sure you insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the chicken and isn’t touching the bone.

Can I use an air frier to cook the chicken?

Yes, you can! An air fryer is great for creating a really crispy finish. Fill the basket with a single layer of seasoned chicken wings. Air fry for 20 minutes at 400ºF or until internal temperature reaches 165ºF.

One downfall of using an air fryer is the limited space for cooking a large batch. For this recipe you’d have to do at least 2-3 batches.
