How to Make Halloween Caramel Apples Step by Step
Step 1. Prep the Apples and Sticks.
This first step is super important for the success of your caramel apples!
Store-bought apples are going to have a wax coating on the outside. You will need to remove that wax coating or else the caramel will not stick. To remove the coating, you will need to boil dunk the apples in boiling water for 5-10 seconds. The hot water will melt the wax coating off the outside.
Once you have boiled off the coating, remove the apples from the water and dry them off completely.
Lastly, twist off the apple stems and push a bamboo candy stick into the top center of the apple where the stem grows. Place your prepped apples to the side while you make your caramel for dipping.

Step 2. Dip in Caramel and Chill.
We’re keeping this recipe super simple and using Kraft Caramel Bits to make our caramel. It just takes about 5 minutes for the caramel to melt and you’re ready for dipping.
In a medium sized sauce pan over medium-low heat, melt caramel bits and heavy cream. The heavy cream will make the caramel extra creamy.
Make sure to keep stirring the caramel so that it doesn’t burn. Once the caramel is melted, tip each apple into the caramel sauce, letting any excess caramel drizzle off. Place them on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
Chill the apples for at least 30 minutes before dipping them in chocolate and coating.
Step 3. Coat with Chocolate and Decorate
Melt your melting chocolates in a sauce pan over medium-low heat. Remove your chilled caramel apples out of the fridge and gently dip them in the melting chocolate. Spinning them to coat all the edges and sides.
Let any excess chocolate drip off. While the chocolate is still soft, sprinkle with chocolate sprinkles and press candy eyes into the sides.

Tips for Decorating and Dipping Caramel Apples Like a Pro
Have your decorating station ready to go! The chocolate will harden fast so make sure you have your sprinkles and candy eyes in a bowl ready to decorate.
How to Prevent Caramel from Sliding Off Apples
Prepping your apples properly will make or break the final result. Sounds dramatic, but it’s true.
Good news is that you can get these apples ready with one easy step. You need to remove the wax coating from the apples

How to Store and Serve Halloween Caramel Apples
Once the chocolate has solidified, wrap in plastic wrap or store in a plastic bag in the fridge for up to 7 days. Wrap tightly or seal the bag around the candy apple sticks.
We recommend only slicing the apples when you’re ready to eat. If you slice the apples and store, the juice from the apple could make the caramel coating soggy.
How Long Caramel Apples Last?
Caramel apples are good up to 7 days in the fridge.

Halloween Monster Caramel Apples Coated in Chocolate
Description
Each crisp apple is dipped in caramel, smothered in milk chocolate and chocolate sprinkles. And truly come to life with candy eyes for the ultimate monster makeover!
Ingredients
- 6 granny smith apples
- 2 14 oz bags caramel bits
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 12 oz bag chocolate melting chips
- 2 cups chocolate sprinkles
- Monster candy eyes
Instructions
- Heat water in a large pot until boiling. Gently drop the apples in the boiling water to soak for 5-10 seconds each to remove the wax. Remove with tongs.
- Dry each apple completely. This way your caramel can stick to the apples.
- Prep a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
- In a pot, heat caramel bits and heavy cream until melted. It will be clumpy, but trust the process, it will melt down. It will take about 10 minutes. Remove from heat once caramel is melted.
- Twist off each stem and stick each skewer in the stem of the apple.
- Dip each caramel apple in the melted caramel and spin to coat all the sides to make sure the apple is fully coated with caramel. Hold the apple above the pot to let any excess caramel drizzle off before putting on sheet pan.
- Repeat step 6 for each apple. Place each apple on the parchment-lined sheet pan to cool and harden. Place the caramel apples in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes – 1 hour before dipping in chocolate.
- Set up a station with toppings… have a bowl for chocolate sprinkles and another one for candy monster eyes.
- In a double boiler (or bowl if using the microwave) heat melting chips until fully melted.
- Roll each caramel apple in the melted chocolate, letting any excess drip off over the pan before and immediately roll in chocolate sprinkles and decorate with eyes.
