One thing about us is that we live for a good airplane snack. For years we would always opt for a quick stop at Chick-fil-a or a muffin and latte at Starbucks before hopping on the plane. We’re happy to say that many of our eating habits have changed since then, and while we still crave a good airport treat every now and then, we always pack our own healthy snacks, too.

There are so many “healthy” snack options out there, and we’ve tried a ton of them (many of them aren’t our forte). However, the snacks we do take on the plane are delicious and nutritious. Today, we’re sharing the healthy airplane snacks we swear by — plus, a couple of travel essentials to keep them neat and tidy in your carry-on bag.

Airplane Snack Essentials

4-Pack Snack Containers

1. David Protein Bars

David protein bars have become our new favorite airplane snack. There are so many delicious flavors to choose from — Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Birthday Cake Batter are our favorites.

One thing we can’t stand about protein bars is the super protein-y flavor that comes with them. These do not have that overpowering flavor, and they taste like you’re eating a really luxe, healthy candy bar.

2. Yogurt, Berries & Granola

Our tried and true snack is a yogurt bowl. Making this feasible to bring onto the plane is actually super easy to do. Our packing hack is to bring a small container of berries with a snack bag of your favorite granola (Purely Elizabeth Chocolate Chip Granola is our favorite).

After getting settled in your terminal of the airport, the nearest grab and go store should have a healthy yogurt option (we always go for Sieges Vanilla Yogurt). Once you’re on the plane, you can assemble the snack bowl in the contianer you packed.

3. Trail Mix

Trail mix is such an easy and delicious snack to pack. Our dad flew international flights for years and swore by his favorite Trader Joe’s trail mix. He has since gotten us hooked on it, too.
Whether you make your own or buy a package to throw in your carry on bag, it’s such a simple snack you don’t have to think a lot about.

4. Siete Potato Chips

We love a salty snack on a plane. Sometimes we get a bit nauseous and ginger ale and a super salty snack always makes us feel so much better. Siete chips are so delicious and are a healthier alternative to a basic potato chip, because they are cooked in avocado oil.

We love the salt and vinegar flavor, but there are also a few other delicious choices like BBQ, Queso, Chile Lime and Sea Salt.

Catalina Crunch cereal and snack mix is a keto-friendly snack we have recently become obsessed with. There are so many flavors to choose from, and it’s a great snack to throw in your bag when hunger strikes.

6. Protein Energy Bites

Protein energy bites are snacks we make ahead of our travel day. They take minutes to make and are super easy to transport in a small container. A couple of them are super filling and perfect for a short plane ride.

7. Almond Butter & Apricot Jelly Sandwich

You can never go wrong with an almond butter and jelly sandwich. It’s a no-fuss snack to take on the plane. You could even go the more classic route of peanut butter spread, but we love the taste of almond butter and apricot jelly on a couple of slices of sourdough.

8. Dried Mango

Trader Joe’s dried mango is the best, and it’s one of our favorite everyday snacks, but it’s also easy to pack in your carry-on for the plane.

9. Carrots & Hummus

Airplanes can get dry and stuffy, so having a hydrating snack is a must. Carrots and hummus is a delicious snack you can pack and add to your bag.

10. White Cheddar Popcorn

We’re a sucker for white cheddar popcorn. It’s a staple snack, and it’s an even better healthy airplane snack to pack because it adds virtually no weight to your bag.

If you’re looking for a healthy, protein-packed snack, chomp sticks are amazing. We love the turkey and beef sticks, and you can most likely find these at the airport too.
