Here are the best solo dates to add to your schedule this year.

This year we’re making it a point to make time for solo dates. No matter your relationship status, the act of color dating is nothing to be ashamed of — in fact, it’s something we’re embracing and taking time to pencil in our schedule.

When you’re craving a bit of “me time” this year, solo dates can be your escape to treat yourself every now and then. Whether it’s going to your favorite spot for dinner or going to see a show alone, these solo date ideas will get you out of your comfort zone, build confidence and open you up to new experiences.

What is a solo date?

A solo date is an activity you do by yourself. Solar dates give you the opportunity to try new things, build your confidence and feel free in making new experiences you may not have the opportunity to do with other people.

1. Going Out to Your Favorite Restaurant

If you’ve never intentionally gone to a restaurant and eaten by yourself, this is your sign to do it. You’ll find that it’s not that lonely and you can take in all the people around you as you enjoy your favorite meal.

2. Grabbing a Coffee and Reading a Book

One of our favorite things to do on a solo date is grabbing a coffee at our favorite local coffee shop and reading a book. Sometimes we like to catch up on cultural things, so we’ll even take a magazine as well.

3. Riding a Bike to Your Favorite Shops

Want to get out and be active on your solo date? Take your bike out for a spin. Ride to any local shops and have an afternoon looking around. Maybe even treat yourself to a fun pastry or fun clothing item while you’re out.

4. Going to a Movie Alone

Going to a movie, indulging some popcorn, candy and a drink sounds like the perfect solo date. Choose a new movie or see if one of your local theaters is sowing an old movie in the cinema again — it’s always fun to relive the moment of seeing an old movie on the big screen another time.

5. Visit a Museum or Art Gallery

One activity we love doing alone, on a day when the weather may not be the best, is going to an art gallery or museum. There’s most likely a museum in your area that you haven’t visited, so making the time for a special outing like this would be perfect on the weekend.

6. Going to a Play or Show

Whether it’s the local theater or a Broadway show, emerging yourself in the arts is such a fun thing to experience solo. Check your city’s theater, theater companies or larger shows visiting the area to find one you’d like to go to.

7. Going to a Bookstore, Buying a Book & Finding a Spot to Read

Want to have a cozy outing? One of our favorite things to do alone is going to a bookstore, buying a new book and finding a spot to read. Whether we find a corner in the bookstore, a cozy chair at a coffee shop or take a trip to the local park to be outside — this is always such a fun thing to do.

8. Get a Massage

If you’re looking for a relaxing solo date, then a massage could be the perfect thing for you. It’s a perfect excuse to release some built up tension and feel refreshed.

9. Schedule a Facial

We recently make room in our schedule and budget this year to invest in a few facials. We’ve absolutely loved adding this as a treat every few months. Not only does it make our skin glow, but it truly helps us feel renewed.

10. Go to a New Workout Class & Grab a Smoothie

Is there a new workout class you’ve been wanting to try for a while? Use your solo date as an excuse to try something new — everything from pilates, boxing, yoga or HIIT.

11. Have a Picnic in the Park

One of our absolute favorite things to do on a nice day is planning a picnic int he park. Whether  you pack your own lunch or stop at your local grocery store or restaurant, use the time alone at the park to relax, enjoy your food and read or people watch.

12. Go to a Live Concert

While we love going to concerts with our friends, we have been dying to experience one by ourselves. Call it a “main character moment” or whatever you’d like, but there’s bound to be something special enjoying your favorite band or artist all to yourself.

13. Take a Cooking or Baking Class

Are you wanting to grow in a skill? Look for cooking or baking classes in your area. These classes are so fun and they often times make things that you probably won’t eat everyday.

14. Act Like a Tourist in Your Own City

There’s nothing more fun and spontaneous than acting like tourist in your own city. Get creative and look for fun activities, free concerts and other attractions that you haven’t yet tried out.
