Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Oreos
  • Dark green chocolate melting wafers
  • Gelatin powder
  • Cold water
  • Granulated cane sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Salt
  • Holiday sprinkles

How to Make These Oreo Marshmallow Christmas Trees

Step 1. Activate gelatin and heat sugar in a saucepan on the stovetop.

Start by activating the gelatin in the bowl of your stand mixer. To activate the gelatin, pour 1/2 cup of cold water into the bowl and pour a couple gelatin packets into the water and let it activate and clump up for about 10 minutes.

While the gelatin is activating, heat syrup and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Use a digital thermometer to track the temperature of the syrup. When the temperature reaches a temperature of 240°F, remove the strip from the heat.

Step 2. Whisk the syrup into the gelatin and whisk the mixture for 10 minutes on high until light and fluffy.

Attach the whisk attachment to the stand mixer. Slowly pour the hot syrup into the gelatin mixture and whisk on medium speed until all the syrup is mixed into the gelatin. Increase the speed to high and mix for 10 minutes, until the marshmallow mixture if fluffy. In the last 30 seconds of whisking, add vanilla and salt.

Step 3. Fill a piping bag with marshmallow and pipe swirls of marshmallow on top of each Oreo cookie. Let them set for at least 30 minutes.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and line 16-20 Oreos in rows, leaving an inch or so separation between them.

Fill a piping bag with marshmallow fluff. Cut the end of the bag a fourth of an inch up and start piping swirls on top of each Oreo cookie.

Let the marshmallow fluff set for about 30 minutes until it is tacky and firm.

Step 4. Melt green chocolate wafers and dunk each Oreo in chocolate. Decorate with sprinkles and let them set to harden before serving!

Melt green chocolate wafers in the microwave or a double boiler. Either one works perfectly fine for melting the wafers. Follow the package instructions for melting the chocolate with either method.

Once the chocolate has melted and is smooth, pour the chocolate into a separate bowl or shallow glass cup that is deep enough to dunk and coat the marshmallow fluff trees. Dip the Oreo, marshmallow-side-down, into the chocolate to give the top of each tree a glossy green coating.

Place the coated Oreos back on the sheet pan to set. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle the tops of the trees with Christmas nonpareil sprinkles. Let them set until the chocolate is hard on the outside. Place on a serving platter or a tiered serving tray and enjoy!

Tip: If you need to speed up the setting time, you can chill them in the refrigerator for about 10-15 minutes.

Tips for Making Oreo Marshmallow Christmas Trees

  • Let the gelatin bloom before adding the sugar syrup. Allow the gelatin to fully absorb the water. This will help create fluffy, stable marshmallow toppings.
  • Use a candy thermometer to track the temperature of sugar syrup. It is important to heat the syrup to the correct temperature so that it reaches a soft-ball consistency for fluffy marshmallows.
  • Let the marshmallow become tacky before dipping into the chocolate. Give the piped marshmallow trees about 30 minutes to set before coating it in chocolate. You want the marshmallows to be firm enough to hold its shape in the warm chocolate.
  • Use a deep bowl for dipping the chocolate. Pour the chocolate wafers into a glass or bowl that is deep enough to coat the marshmallow trees.

Recipe FAQ

Yes, you can! Prep these a day or two before serving and store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Make sure the chocolate coating is fully set before stacking or packaging them.

We don’t recommend it because it will have a softer, stickier texture, which will make it harder to prep and get the defined tree shape.

You can use almond bark or white candy melts tinted with green food coloring. If you are using white chocolate with food coloring, be sure to choose an oil-based food coloring rather than a water-based food coloring to avoid the chocolate seizing or becoming grainy.

Definitely! Have fun with these trees and mix and match flavors. The marshmallow pairs well with most Oreo flavors!

Other festive ways to decorate these Oreo Marshmallow Christmas Trees

This recipe is so versitile – you can change the color of the chocolate and the sprinkle toppings to transform these trees into other festive holiday shapes. Here are some more fun ideas:

  • Frosted trees: Dip the Oreos Marshmallow Fluff in White chocolate and top with Silver crystal sugar for a snowy effect.
  • Christmas Hats: Color the white chocolate red and place a large white sugar pearl sprinkle on top of each hat to resemble a pom pom.

Storing Oreo Marshmallow Christmas Trees

Store the trees in an airtight container in a single layer in a cool, dry place. Avoid refrigerating them if possible because the condensation can affect the chocolate coating and make the marshmallows sticky.

An easy, whimsical Christmas dessert that makes a showstopping addition to holiday parties, cookie trays, and dessert tables.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 25–30 Oreos
  • 24 oz Dark green chocolate melting wafers
  • 2 tbsp holiday sprinkles

Marshmallow Filling

  • 2 packets of gelatin powder
  • 11/2 cups cold water
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated cane sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Add 1/2 cup cold water and gelatin packets to a stand mixer bowl. Let it set to activate while you make your hot syrup.
  2. In a saucepan, over medium heat, heat your sugar and 1 cup water. Use a candy thermometer to carefully watch until the temperature reaches 240°F (soft ball).
  3. Once your syrup has reached 240°F, remove from heat. Turn your stand mixer on to medium speed with the whisk attachment and gently and slowly pour your hot syrup into the mixer. Once you have emptied all the syrup, increase the mixing speed to high. Mix for 10 minutes until your marshmallow mixture has increased in size and is fluffy. Add in your vanilla and whisk for 30 more seconds.
  4. Fill a piping bag with marshmallow fluff. Cut the ends 1/4” way up and pipe marshmallow swirls on the top of each Oreo cookie. Set them aside to set for about 30 minutes, until tacky to the touch.
  5. Melt green melting chocolate wafers, following the package directions. If you’re using white chocolate chips instead of melting wafers, melt the chocolate in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until it is smooth.
  6. Dip each Oreo fluff upside down into the chocolate and carefully place it back on the sheet pan to set. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle the tops with Christmas sprinkles to decorate the trees.
