1. Before Packing Anything, Purge What You Have Already
Packing is a daunting task that not a lot of people find enjoyable. One way to make the process more efficient is to purge the items you have. Start with the items meant for one space in your house.
For instance, begin with the items you have in your kitchen. Ask yourself how often you use an item or if find it useful to your lifestyle anymore. If you choose to not keep the item, put it in a “donate pile” or “sale pile”.
You will be surprised by the items you decide to give away, and with those items you could be able to earn some extra cash before moving into your new place. After completing the purging process for one space in your home, move to the next. Purging your items makes your load a lot lighter and your move easier for everyone involved!
2. Ask for Free Moving Boxes
One tip that can save you some money when moving is asking around for free boxes. Many times, local stores will be willing to give away some of their boxes that carried products to their store. You can simply ask them if they would be willing to give them to you for free. They may accept because you are choosing to repurpose them as opposed to the boxes being thrown out.
You can also ask family members or friends who have recently moved to see if they have any boxes left over. This will free you from spending unnecessary expenses on resources that are going to be eventually wasted.
3. Facebook Market Place is an INCREDIBLE Place to Find Furniture
Facebook Market Place is the BEST place to find items for your new apartment! Whether you’re moving into a new space that needs different furniture or this is your first apartment and you haven’t purchased anything yet, STOP and LOOK at Facebook Market Place. About a month before moving into our apartment, we were searching every moment we could for the perfect couch, because we didn’t have the money in our budget to buy a brand new one.
We were eyeing Crate & Barrel Couches and other high end brands, because we knew we could find something more affordable and in our budget—AND WE DID! We found a Z Gallerie couch selling for a fraction of the retail price. It was in mint condition and was really a steal! It’s our favorite thing in our apartment now! Just keep looking, and you will find some steals and deals all over the place!

4. Clean Your Apartment When You Move In
This is something that is necessary when we move into a new place. Just thinking of who or how many people lived in the apartment before us makes us want to clean the space even more. We have moved into apartments that have been filthy and some that appear to be sparkling clean. Either way, cleaning your apartment when you move in is refreshing, gets rid of any odor that lingers, and makes you feel so much better after the moving and unpacking process is complete.
