We’ve got breakfast, lunch and dinner covered with the best deep dish breakfast pizza – an easy go-to recipe for your next brunch or breakfast for dinner night!

A dream combo: breakfast and pizza! A thick crust, layered with herby cheese sauce and topped with all your breakfast favorites, scrambled eggs bacon and more cheese to make a deliciously filling meal for your next brunch or breakfast-for-dinner meal.

Say breakfast for dinner or pizza and we are 100% in! But say breakfast pizza and okay, it’s non negotiable…its happening! You really can’t go wrong with breakfast or pizza. Growing up our mom would always place orders with Shwann’s, a frozen food delivery service (if you know, you know) and our favorites were always their frozen pizzas. But one of our particular favorites was their personal pan breakfast pizza’s, which had a cheesy sauce and were topped with eggs and sausage. They were so good and it was always a treat on a night that we got to eat one.

We wanted to try to recapture the flavors of the prepackaged frozen pizzas of our childhood memories. But we also wanted to put our own twist on the classic recipe, by making a healthier Alfredo sauce and making a home made Italian herb crust. And we hit all the flavors on the mark to wrap all the savory breakfast flavors into a pizza that have you coming back for more!

The Best Deep Dish Breakfast Pizza

What’s in this recipe?

The Dough

All Purpose Flour: All purpose flour is what most people have on hand, so that is what we used for the crust. But a good alternative is bread flour, which will actually result in a chewier crust.

Rapid Active Dry Yeast: We are big fans of making the baking process quicker and easier, which is why we use active dry yeast. It takes way less time to activate and still gives you the same results.

Olive Oil: Used in the dough and greasing surfaces. We always recommend to use extra virgin olive oil in cooking. Why? Because it has a better flavor and is not as processed.

Salt: Salt is added for flavor to the dough.

Italian Seasoning: Adds lots of flavor to the dough and the cheesy yogurt Alfredo sauce.

The Sauce and Toppings

Greek Yogurt: We know it sounds strange, but trust us, it works!! It is the base of the cheesy sauce and adds a creaminess without adding a heavy cream. And when everything is mixed together, you won’t even know it’s there.

Chicken broth: Chicken broth adds a nice savory flavor to the pizza sauce.

Milk: Choose your milk of choice – cow’s milk and unflavored plant based milks work just as well. You will just need a little to help liquify the sauce.

Shredded parmesan and mozzarella cheese: A lot of the cheese is actually in the sauce, not on the topping of this pizza. Parmesan and Mozzarella are mixed into the sauce and lightly sprinkled on top.

Eggs: Scrambled eggs is the way to go with this pizza. It adds a nice texture and  to the toppings.

Bacon: Bacon makes everything better, so there was no question adding it to this breakfast pizza. Pan fried, chopped and sprinkled on top to add a salty flavor and a bit of crunch to every bite.

Green onions: Instead of cooking onions in the dish, we think they work better as a topping to not only add more flavor but also an extra pop of color to the pizza.

Fresh parsley: The green from the fresh parsley and green onions adds a pop of color and flavor to the dish.

How to Make the Deep Dish Breakfast Pizza

Making the Pizza Dough:

Start with making the pizza dough. (If you are opting to use store bought, skip to making the pizza sauce.) In a bowl attached to an electric mixer, add warm water and yeast to the bowl, mixing just to stir the yeast around and let it sit to activate for ten minutes.

While your yeast is setting, combine your dry ingredients to a medium bowl and whisk them together and set aside.

Next, you will need to melt your butter. You can either melt in the microwave with a microwave safe bowl or melt over the stove top in a small sauce pan. Make sure that you do not over heat the butter. You don’t want your butter to be bubbling boiling because if too hot, it could kill the yeast. You just want it to be warm

After your yeast has set for 10 minutes, turn mixer on to low speed and add butter and olive oil. Once combined, add your flour mixture and increase speed to medium. Mix dough on medium speed for about ten minutes until it starts pull from the sides. Your pizza dough will be a wet, sticky dough.

Once your dough has formed, you will need to proof the dough, and allow it to rise before you can bake it. Grease a large bowl with olive oil, so your dough does not stick to the sides. Remove the dough from the mixing bowl place dough in the greased bowl. Cover with towel and place in a warm surface. We recommend placing in a closed microwave ours in a microwave. Let the dough rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.

While your dough is rising, make your sauce and toppings.

How to make a healthier white pizza sauce

In a small bowl, mix together yogurt, chicken broth, milk, oregano, garlic powder and parmesan. Set aside and make your toppings.

Cook your toppings:

In a skillet, over medium high heat, start by cooking the bacon slices . Once the bacon is cooked and crispy remove from pan and place on a paper towel-lined plate to collect any dripping grease. Do not clean your pan, jut leave the bacon grease in the pan to cook your eggs to add a delicious flavor

Next start making your scrambled eggs. In a medium bowl, whisk six eggs, adding a dash of milk for some creaminess (adding milk is optional). Reduce stovetop heat to medium-low and add eggs to pan, continually whisk to scrambled. Remove from heat for assembling.

Assemble the pizza

Start by preheating your oven to 450oF. Remove the dough from the microwave and punch the dough lightly with your fist to release some of the gasses.

Heavily flour a counter surface or cutting board and knead your dough for a couple minutes. Add flour if you dough is sticking to your surface. It is a wet dough, so a little extra flour won’t hurt.

Grease a 9×9 baking pan with olive oil, making sure all corners and sides are covered. Place dough in pan and press into the corners and up against the edges to make a deep dish crust. Next, top with cheese sauce, eggs, bacon and more cheese. Place the pan in the preheated oven and cook for 25 minutes until edges are golden brown. Remove from oven, cool for five minutes. Slice and enjoy hot!
