Skillet Cornbread Biscuits with Jam and Cream. A cornmeal biscuit topped with a sprinkling of sugar and served with a light whipped cream and jam.
There’s nothing super fancy about these biscuits, but as we’re serving them with fresh whipped cream and our favorite Bonne Maman jam we like to pretend we’re in a fancy tea time session with the queen lol.
When we were brainstorming recipe ideas for this month, we had the idea of crossing a traditional biscuit with cornbread. We can honestly say that the addition of cornmeal in these biscuits was an amazing choice! It adds such a delicious flavor and texture to the layers of the biscuit.
These Skillet Cornbread Biscuits are the perfect addition to any breakfast, brunch or tea time. We can’t wait to make these again for when our friends and family gather for the holidays!

Skillet Cornbread Biscuits With Jam and Cream
Cornbread Biscuits…
Biscuits are super simple to make and have few ingredients. The only difference to these biscuits is that we added cornmeal to the dough. What would traditionally be flour, we substituted part of it with cornmeal.
First, whisk your dry ingredients in a bowl, then you cut the butter into the flour, add your wet ingredients and then fold and shape the dough.
*Pro Tip: To cut the biscuits into perfect circles we used a round cookie cutter. You can also use a biscuit cutter as well.
Do I have to make the biscuits in a skillet?
If you don’t have a cast iron skillet to cook the biscuits in, you can totally cook them in any other baking pan. A round cake pan or rectangular cake pan will work beautifully as well.
The Whipped Cream…
The whipped cream is super simple to make as well! All you have to do is add the heavy cream to the stand mixer bowl and whisk until peaks form. Then, add the cream cheese and powdered sugar—mixing until everything is combined.
Once whisked, you should have a beautiful, slightly sweet cream to spread on the skillet cornbread biscuits.
What jam can I pair with these biscuits?
Jam is a necessity when eating biscuits, and the selection of jam is totally up to you. We love Raspberry or apricot jam, but you can totally get creative with your choices as well.
Other jam-biscuit pairings:
- Strawberry Preserves
- Raspberry Preserves
- Blueberry Preserves
- Cherry Preserves
- Orange Marmelade
- Lemon Curd
- Apricot Jam
- Mixed Berry Preserves
- Peach Jam
