Almond Butter Frozen Chocolate Covered Banana Bites. This is a great, healthy dessert or snack to make ahead and eat throughout the week.
A few weeks ago, we had a bunch of bananas that we needed to either cut up for smoothies or use in a recipe. We had seen a TikTok video of someone making chocolate covered bananas, and thought that we would make our own twist on it.
Frozen chocolate covered bananas aren’t a new concept by any means, but they are so delicious and there are so many ways you can make them. We tested out a couple of variations of frozen bananas, and really loved the addition of almond butter to them.
The almond butter adds an extra depth of flavor and is so yummy! You have to try it! These have quickly become one of our favorite, healthy desserts, because they are so simple to make.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Bananas
In our opinion, biting into a whole frozen banana makes our teeth hurt and is a little difficult to eat. Cutting up our bananas into slices and making bite-size bananas has the right move. The banana bites are super easy to grab and eat whoever you want. These are seriously so easy to make! Here are the 5 simple steps to make almond butter frozen chocolate covered banana bites:
- Cut and Freeze Banana Slices: You want to slice your bananas into 1/4 inch slices. On a parchment paper lined baking sheet, place your banana slices on the baking sheet. You can place them close together, but make sure they aren’t touching (They may freeze together). Freeze the slices for 30 minutes.
- Add almond butter: We wanted to make these banana bites like a mini ice cream truffle situation. You first want to add a dollop of almond butter on top of every banana. Freeze the almond butter banana slices for the remaining 30 minutes. This will allow the almond butter to harden a bit—making it easier to cover them in chocolate.
- Melt your chocolate: In a double boiler, a double-boiler hack (see below) melt your dark chocolate. Stir the chocolate consistently until it’s melted and smooth.
- Dip and top: Using a fork, dip the bananas in the melted dark chocolate. Allow the chocolate to coat the banana and place the slice back on the baking sheet. Top with your favorite toppings (see some delicious topping suggestions below).
- Final Freeze & Store: Freeze them for 30 more minutes on the baking sheet and transfer them to an air tight container. We love using these glass containers from Amazon to store our frozen banana bites.
How to Melt Chocolate (Double Boiler Hack)
If you have a double boiler, that’s great! However, if you don’t have a double boiler, you can try this hack. To be honest, it’s the method we prefer most to melt chocolate.
What You’ll Need for this double-boiler hack:
- Pot
- Heat-proof bowl (we use a glass mixing bowl)
- A rubber spatula
- Water
How to Melt Chocolate Without a Double-Boiler:
- Fill a pot with water, stopping once the pot is 1/3 of the way full.
- Place the heat-proof bowl on top of the pot, so it rests nicely on top of the pot. You don’t want the bowl to be small enough where it falls into the pot. The water and bowl should not be touching at this point.
- Allow the water to come to a boil. As the water begins to boil the heat and steam from the water will melt the chocolate. Using your rubber spatula, make sure to constantly stir the chocolate.
- Once all the chocolate chips or chocolate bark is melted and smooth, remove the bowl from the heat. You’ll want to work with the chocolate pretty quickly after this, because it will begin to harden. If your chocolate does harden up, don’t worry! Simply place at the bowl back over the pot of boiling water and allow the chocolate to melt again.

How Long Can You Store Frozen Bananas
After your bananas are frozen, transfer them to an air-tight glass container (we love these from Amazon). You can store the frozen bananas in your freezer for 1 month. We highly doubt they will last that long though! We eat ours in a better of days!
