Fall is our absolute favorite season of the year! The one thing we look forward to most during fall is picking out some gorgeous pumpkins for our home. Since we are living at home with our parents now, we thought we would surprise them with some fall decor on their front porch.

It’s amazing how simple fall decor can make a gorgeous statement at the front door. Whether you live in a small apartment, rental home or have a home of your own, making a cozy entrance for your guests is something so fun to do!

How to Decorate a Small Front Porch in the Fall

When we were getting inspiration for our fall front porch decor, we only saw large porches on Pinterest. We noticed that there was a gap in Pinterest, where small front porches weren’t acknowledged much.

Having lived in small apartments and homes our whole life, we’ve only ever had a small front porch to decorate. We knew that sharing our fall decor for small front porch 2022 would inspire others to do the same this year.

Here are the steps we took to prep our front porch and how we decorated it for fall 2022:

1. Remove Items You Don’t Want to Use

We removed a door mat that we use when the holiday seasons are over.

Since you’re decorating for a new season, it’s important to take all the items you used for summer decor and store them elsewhere during the fall season. It’s better to start with a clean slate too!

2. Sweep Your Front Porch

When we removed our old rug, we realized that there was a bunch of dirt and dried leaves left over. We made sure to sweep our front porch so that the area was as clean as possible for the new items we were using to decorate.

3. Add a Tall Pot and a Large Mum

Our mom already had this tall wooden pot on her front porch, so we thought it would look great with a giant orange mum to contrast the navy blue color on the pot. It turned out looking great!

We were also so shocked at how large our mum was! We bought ours at Sam’s Club for only $16–which is such a good price! If you have a Sam’s nearby, you should look at getting a mum there. If not, you local nursery should have plenty during the fall season.

4. Place Pumpkins of Varying Sizes, Colors and Shapes

We went to our local nursery to pick out pumpkins. It’s one of our favorite things to do, especially when there are so many gorgeous pumpkins of different varieties.

When we were looking Pinterest for some inspiration, we loved the mix-match pumpkins on the front porch. We looked for super organic-looking pumpkins of different sizes and colors and arranged them on our front porch next to the mum.

5. Layer Door Mats

We are obsessed with layering front porch mats in the fall. It add such a cozy feel to your front porch.

We bought this sage green, plaid door mat for only $20 and layered this “Come in and Cozy Up” door mat on top. It definitely elevates the look of the front porch and makes it feel warm and inviting.
