This fall apple cheddar charcuterie board is the perfect appetizer to serve for a holiday gathering or pretty much any time of year!
It’s been a while since we shared a new charcuterie board, and with Thanksgiving and Friendsgiving gatherings coming up, we thought it would be a perfect time to share a new recipe!
When we were thinking of different fall flavors to make this one different from our traditional Thanksgiving Charcuterie board, we immediately thought of apples. Apples are in season in the fall and nothings pairs better with a crisp red apple than cheddar cheese. We ran with the “apple cheddar” idea and absolutely loved how it turned out!
Made with sweet honey crisp apples, sharp cheddar cheese, soft pretzel nuggets, summer sausage, candied walnuts, mini chocolate chip cookies and dark chocolate caramels. This board is the perfect appetizer to serve at your next gathering with friends, for a holiday party with neighbors, or game day party!

Fall Apple Cheddar Charcuterie Board
What’s in this recipe?
Apples: We used two honey crisp apples for this board, but feel free to use any apples you prefer.
Sharp White Cheddar: The sharp white cheddar is an intense flavor, but pairs beautifully with the sweet apple.
Sharp Cheddar Cheese: We added regular cheddar cheese as a more mild cheese option on the board.
Multigrain Crackers: Our go-to cracker for charcuterie boards are round multigrain crackers. They are so delicious and taste amazing with just about anything you put on a charcuterie board.
Summer Sausage: The holidays are officially summer sausage season (IYKYK!). It has such amazing flavor and pairs great with cheese and crackers.
Soft Pretzels: We made homemade pretzel nuggets for this board and they are so simple to make! We followed this recipe from Sally’s Baking Edition.
Cheese Sauce: Although you can choose any cheese sauce you prefer, we always go back to this vegan cashew queso. It has so much amazing flavor and tastes just like queso. Plus, it’s the perfect dipping sauce for your pretzels.
Apple Butter: Apple butter just made since for another dipping sauce on this board. Add it to a cracker with cheese or dip a soft pretzel in it for a sweet treat.
Candied Walnuts: We made our own candied walnuts (see the notes for our simple 5-minute recipe) and are never going back. They are so delicious and add such a warm, sweet flavor to the board.
Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels: The dark chocolate caramels are the perfect flavors to add to the apple cheddar charcuterie board, because they pair so well.
Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies: We can never say no to anything miniature, and everybody loves a good chocolate chip cookie, so this was a no brainer addition to the board.
How to Make the Fall Apple Cheddar Charcuterie Board
This board is seriously so simple to make, and we know your guests will love all the fun fall flavors on the board!
Prepare the Items on the Board…
The first step to making any charcuterie board is to prepare the items to be placed on the board. For this board in particular, we recommend starting with the item that will take the most time. In this case, that’s the soft pretzel nuggets.
Start by making the soft pretzels based on the instructions in the recipe (this is the recipe we used). Once the pretzels are made, it’s time to prepare the rest of the items for the board. This includes:
- Cut the cheese into slices
- Cut the summer sausage into slices
- Chop the apple into slices
- Heat the queso in a microwavable bowl
- Add some apple butter to a small ramekin
- Make your candied nuts
Assemble the board…
After all the items are ready to go, it’s time to assemble the apple cheddar charcuterie board.
We always start by placing the dipping sauce ramekins or any item that’s contained in a bowl on the board. Then we layer in our larger items, like the apples, cheddar cheese, crackers and pretzels. We love placing items randomly around the board to give our boards a more organic, artistic feel.
Lastly, we fill the remaining spaces on the board with the smaller items, like the candied nuts, mini chocolate chop cookies and dark chocolate caramels.
