How to Make Pumpkin Tiramisu

Our pumpkin tiramisu has a subtle pumpkin flavor but we did not hold back on the delicious pumpkin spice. It is mixed into the filling and dusted on top with the cocoa powder. Let’s dive into how to make this deliciously creamy pumpkin dessert.

Start by making the pumpkin tiramisu filling. You will add all of the filling ingredients into an electric mixer bowl and whisk on medium speed until whipped until soft peaks form. You can place in the fridge to keep cool until you are ready to assemble the tiramisu layers.

After you make the pumpkin filling, make whipped cream. It is so easy to make homemade whipped cream. All you need to do whisk together heavy cream and some vanilla until stiff peaks form. This will be for topping at the end.

If you are short on time or want a simpler option, you can skip this step and use store-bought whipped cream.

Next, dip lady fingers in espresso shots. If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can use really strong hot coffee to achieve the same flavor. Pour espresso shots into a shallow bowl and start dunking each lady finger into the espresso, one at a time. Line the bottom of a baking dish with the soaked lady fingers in a single layer with little to no gaps. Only dunk the cookies into the espresso for 1-2 seconds. They absorb the coffee very quickly and you don’t want them to be too mushy.

Continue to layer your tiramisu. After you line the bottom of your baking dish with the lady fingers, spread 1/3 of the pumpkin filling over the lady fingers. Top with more lady fingers, then pumpkin filling, another layer of lady fingers and then the last third of the pumpkin filling.

Lastly, top with whipped cream, cocoa powder dusting and chill. Gently spread the whipped cream over the top, dust with cocoa powder and pumpkin spice. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 2-3 hours before serving. You want to make sure the tiramisu has completely set before serving.

Why did we make and eggless tiramisu?

It’s easier and tastes the same!

Classic Italian tiramisu creates a custard-like filling with eggs, but you can create an egg-less tiramisu with a similar texture just by using heavy whipping cream. It’s a simpler and less technical way to make the same tiramisu everyone loves.

Tips to make a Perfect Tiramisu

Tiramisu is not a difficult dessert to make, but there are some tips we have for making at home so that the taste and texture are close to perfection!

  1. Mascarpone is a must…not replaceable. Mascarpone cheese is one of the nonnegotiable ingredients in this recipe. It has a distinct sweet and creamy texture so we do not recommend swapping it for another cheese.
  2. Only dunk lady fingers in coffee for 1-2 seconds, each side. Lady finger cookies are very porous and will soak up coffee very quickly. Make sure that it is just a quick dip in the coffee and does not become mushy. Each lady finger brand varies, so it may take a couple of trial runs to figure out how long to dip the lady fingers. We found 1-2 seconds was enough.
  3. Use Saviodiari (firm) cookies for this recipe. The firm cookies will give you the soft texture when soaked in coffee.
  4. Keep heavy cream and mascarpone cold before whisking. It is important that you use mascarpone straight out of the fridge before mixing it into the whipped cream. If mascarpone is held at room temperature too long, the texture of the filling will fall a bit flat.

Description

Three delicious layers of espresso-soaked lady fingers, creamy pumpkin spiced mascarpone filling and dusted with cocoa powder and pumpkin spice.

Ingredients

Scale

1/2 cup pumpkin puree

1 1/2 cups heavy cream

16 oz mascarpone cheese

1/2 cup sugar

1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice

2848 lady fingers (depending on size)

2 cup espresso or stronger coffee

1 tsp vanilla

Homemade Whipped Cream

1 cup heavy cream

1 tsp vanilla

Pumpkin Spice Cocoa Dusting

1/4 cup dutch cocoa powder

1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Instructions

  1. In an electric mixer with the whisk attachment, whisk together pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, mascarpone and heavy whipping cream. Whisk on medium-high speed until soft peaks form.
  2. Prepare espresso and strong coffee for dipping the lady fingers. Pour espresso into a shallow bowl and add vanilla. Stir to mix.
  3. Dip each lady finger, one at a time, into the coffee for 1-2 seconds max and place on baking dish in a single layer. When soaking the lady fingers, you want to make sure the they don’t get too soft and crumble. Line bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish with the coffee soaked lady fingers in a single layer, making sure there are minimal gaps.
  4. Scoop 1/3 of the pumpkin mascarpone mixture on top of the lady fingers, spreading into an even layer. Add another single layer of coffee-soaked lady fingers on top and repeat with another 1/3 of the mascarpone mixture. Add a third layer of lady fingers and the last of the mascarpone. (Note: 3 layers will only work if you have a dish that is at least 3 inches deep. If you are using a shallower pan, only do 2 layers of lady fingers and pumpkin filling)
  5. The final layer is a thin layer of whipped cream. Add heavy cream and vanilla to the bowl of an electric mixer and whisk on high until stiff peaks form (3-5 minutes). Gently spread whipped cream on top of the tiramisu.
  6. Using a sifter, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder and pumpkin pie spice mixture.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and chill tiramisu in the fridge for 2-3 hours before serving. Serve with coffee or tea!
