The Best Margherita Pizza Toast
What’s in this recipe?
French Bread: As we mentioned before, high quality French bread or sourdough bread is a must! We love going to our local bakery, but you can also find delicious French bread at Whole Foods as well.
Olive Oil: The olive oil adds delicious flavor and crispiness to the pizza toast.
Garlic Cloves: Garlic gloves are rubbed on the hot toast to add a delicious garlic flavor.
Italian Seasoning: Italian seasoning is sprinkled on top of the bread before the sauce is spread on top.
Pizza Sauce: We used Rao’s pizza sauce, and absolutely love the flavor, but you can use your favorite pizza sauce from the grocery store.
Fresh Mozzarella: Sliced, fresh mozzarella is layered on top of the toast, like a traditional Margherita pizza.
Shredded Parmesan: Shredded Parmesan is added last to add a variation in flavor.
Basil: The fresh basil leaves are added onto the pizza after it’s taken out of the oven. It makes the pizza toast taste so fresh and delicious!
Small Pepperonis (optional): It’s hard to deny adding pepperoni to our pizza, so if you like pepperoni, it tastes so yummy on this Margherita pizza toast!
How to Make Pizza Toast
The pizza toast literally take less than 5 minutes to assemble and less than 10 to bake in the oven, making this a super simple meal for the family or appetizer for a house party.
Toast the bread…
To start, heat your oven on broil. Then, slice your toast and place the slices on a rimmed baking sheet.
Then, rub the toast with garlic and drizzle with olive oil. The garlic will add a delicious flavor to the toast, and the olive oil will make it perfectly crispy. Broil the toast for a few minutes until slightly, golden brown.
Assemble…
Once you remove the slices from the oven, they should be slightly crispy. Turn down the oven to 450°F, and then start assembling your pizza. First, add with sauce, then layer the mozzarella and parmesan on top.
Place the toast back in the oven and bake for 5 minutes, then broil for 2 more minutes until the cheese is golden and melted.
Remove the pizza from the oven, top with fresh basil and enjoy! Feel free to add any additional toppings. We’re slightly obsessed with red pepper on our pizza and add an obscene amount! LOL!
