Banana bread is a classic breakfast, brunch and sweet dessert bread that just about anyone loves. It’s one of our favorite go-to’s when we’re hoping guests at our home or if we have some super overripe bananas laying out on the counter.

We wanted to create a bit of healthier twist to the traditional banana bread recipe and use a mixture of almond flour and all-purpose. Not only is the almond flour more nutritionally dense, but it also adds a delicious flavor to the bread as well.

This chocolate chip almond flour banana bread only takes 10 minutes to whip up and then you let the oven do the rest of the work. We may a bit biased, but this may be the best banana bread recipe out there!

What’s in this recipe?

Almond Flour: The almond flour is made of almonds that are finely ground to make a flour for baking. It adds more nutritional value to this bread and gives it a delicious flour too.

All-Purpose Flour: We added all-purpose flour to create a fluffier consistency.

Baking Soda: Baking soda helps the bread to rise more and gives the bread more tender consistency.

Baking Powder: Baking powder helps the bread rise more too.

Cinnamon: We added a bit of cinnamon to this bread to add more flavor and give it a warmer taste.

Salt: A little bit of salt is always necessary in sweet baked goods to offset the sweetness of the ingredients.

Overripe Bananas: One of the most important things when cooking banana bread is to have overripe bananas. They are sweeter and softer—giving the bread a delicious flavor and texture.

Brown Sugar: We added some brown sugar to the bread to enhance the sweetness and provide more depth in flavor.

Butter: We love to use grass-fed butter when available, because it’s better quality and gives baked goods a delicious flavor.

Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt helps makes the bread more moist and adds a slight tangy flavor.

Vanilla: Vanilla is a delicious, simple flavor we love adding to most baked sweet breads.

Eggs: This recipe requires three eggs which helps aid in giving the bread a beautiful structure.

Chocolate Chips: The chocolate chips pair perfectly with the banana flavor and are such sweet surprises in every bite.

Whipped Cinnamon Butter: The whipped cinnamon butter is super simple to make and tastes delicious on the chocolate banana bread.

How to Make the Banana Bread

This chocolate chip almond flour banana bread recipe only takes about 10 minute to whip up and then you let the oven do the rest of the work for about an hour! It’s so simple, you’ll be amazed at how delicious it turns out.

Prepare Your Loaf Pan…

To start, you’ll want to preheat your oven to 350°F. Then, line a medium size loaf pan with butter and then a piece of parchment paper. This will help the parchment paper stick to the pan and from the bread sticking to the sides.

Make the Banana Bread Batter…

Next, in a medium sized mixing bowl (we love these mixing bowls), whisk the almond flour, flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and salt until combined. Set the bowl aside for later.

Then, in a stand mixer, blend the brown sugar, butter, and greek yogurt on medium-high speed for 3 minutes. Add the eggs in one at a time, scraping down the sides of the bowl as you go. Then mix in the vanilla until just combined.

Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet until moistened and no flour remains. Then, mix in the mashed bananas until just combined. Lastly, food in the chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate.

Bake the Banana Bread…

Pour the batter in the prepared loaf pan and bake for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow the banana bread to cool completely on a wire rack before cutting. Once it’s cooled, slice and serve.

In our opinion, this chocolate chip banana bread is best paired with a hot cup of coffee!

Make the Whipped Cinnamon Butter…

The Whipped Cinnamon Butter is super simple to make and only takes 5 minutes to prepare! Plus, it tastes delicious spread on a slice of banana bread.

In your mixer, using a whisk attachment, whisk butter, milk and cinnamon on low for 2 minutes or until the ingredients are mixed together. Then increase the speed to med-high and whisk the butter mixture for 3 more minutes. Serve in a small dish ramekin or bowl so guests can spread on however much they like.

  • 1 1/4 cup almond flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour, or coconut flour if you want it grain free)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 overripe bananas (mashed)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter (room temp)
  • 1/3 cup greek yogurt
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 3 eggs (room temp)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Whipped Cinnamon Butter

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp honey


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a medium loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together almond flour, flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. In a stand mixer, mix brown sugar, butter, greek yogurt on a med-high speed for 3 minutes. Add eggs in one at a time. Scrape the sides of the bowl as you go. Then mix in the vanilla.
  4. Slowly stir the dry mixture into the wet just until moistened and no visible flour remains. Mix in the mashed banana until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour batter to your loaf pan or baking dish and bake for 50-60 minutes until deep golden brown and toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Allow to cool completely in the loaf pan resting on a wire rack, then remove using the parchment paper to help you, slice and serve. Enjoy!
