They take a matter of minutes to make and you only need a handful of ingredients. Make them for your next game night with friends, for a party or whenever you’re craving a bit of nostalgia that’s cookies and cream coded. Let’s dive into the gooey details.
What You’ll Need
- Salted Butter
- Mini marshmallows
- Rice Krispies cereal
- Oreos
- Vanilla Extract
How to make Cookies and Cream Rice Krispies Treats
Step 1. Prep your baking dish.
Before you do anything else, butter and line your baking dish! Because once the marshmallows start to melt, you’ll be moving fast.
Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish, making sure to get all the edges and corners. Line the dish with parchment paper to create a sling. This will make it super easy to remove the treats form the pan.
Step 2. Melt butter and marshmallows.
Start by heating butter in a large pot or dutch oven. We used salted butter to cut some of the sweetness of the treats. When the butter starts to melt and bubble, this is when you add in the marshmallows.
Continue to stir the mixture until the marshmallows are cooked down. Once your marshmallows are completely melted, stir in vanilla extract before adding in the cereal.

Step 3. Add in cereal and chopped Oreos and stir until combined.
Pour rice Krispies cereal and chopped Oreos into the melted marshmallows. Fold the cereal and cookies into the marshmallows until the are evenly mixed. Make sure you scrape to the bottom of the pan to make sure all the marshmallow has been mixed in.
You’ll have to work quickly here because the marshmallows will start to cool down and harden quickly.
Step 4. Pour melted Krispies treats into a buttered baking dish.
Dump the gooey mixture into a greased, parchment-lined baking pan. Make sure you scrape the sides of the dutch oven to get all the bits that stick to the side. You won’t want any to go to waste!
Sprinkle the top with more chopped Oreos and press the Rice Krispies mixture into the pan.

Step 5. Let the mixture chill for 15 minutes.
The mixture will need to cool and set in the fridge for at least 15 minutes until they are ready to be sliced.
Step 6. Slice and enjoy!
The rice Krispies treats should now be firm enough to slice through. Use a knife to scrape around the edges of pan to loosen the edges. Lift the parchment paper on both sides of the pan to lift the treats out of the pan.
Use a sharp knife to cut the the rice Krispies treats into squares. Serve and enjoy!

Tips for Making Rice Krispies Treats
The recipe is super simple but here are some pointers to help prep and make the treats without a sticky gooey mess!
- Butter and line a pan with parchment paper. These are super gooey, so the butter will keep the marshmallow from sticking to the sides of the pan. Parchment paper will act as a sling to easily remove the treats from the pan.
- Stir continuously so marshmallows don’t burn. Stir to move the marshmallows around as the melt so that the bottom of your pan doesn’t burn. The treats won’t taste quite the same if there are burned bits.
- Lightly wet your hands when pressing the cereal treats into the pan. When you are ready to pour the rice Krispies into the pan they will be very sticky. If you lightly wet your hands, you can press the gooey mixture down into the pan without much marshmallow sticking to your fingers.
- Allow time for the treats to set before slicing. You want to make sure that the treats have enough time to solidify.
Swap Oreos for these other delicious rice Krispies Treat Combinations:
- Golden Oreos
- Nutter Butters
- Chips Ahoy Cookies
- Frosted Circus Animal Cookies

Can you substitute marshmallows for marshmallow fluff?
We recommend you don’t do this for a couple reasons. For starters, we found the pre-made marshmallow creme or fluff can result in a dryer cereal treat, rather than a gooey one! Secondly, the mixture of the mini marshmallows, butter and vanilla add so much more flavor to the treats.
How to Store Rice Krispies Treats
Cool the Rice Krispies Treats completely before storing. Store in airtight container, at room temperature for 2-3 days.

Cookies and Cream Rice Krispies Treats
Description
Rice Krispies cereal and crushed Oreo cookies are folded into a buttery, gooey melted marshmallow mixture. And once cooled, are sliced into thick squares of melted goodness.
Ingredients
- 1 stick salted butter
- 2 16-oz bags of mini marshmallows
- 8 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 cup chopped Oreos
- 1 tsp vanilla extract/ vanilla bean paste
Instructions
- Start by lightly greasing a 9×13 pan with 1 tbsp softened butter and lining it with parchment paper.
- Roughly chop about 1 cup of Oreos (about 26 cookies). That way you have so larger and smaller pieces mixed into the treats.
- In a Dutch oven over medium heat, melt butter until bubbly and golden. Pour marshmallows into the pot and stir with a rubber spatula until completely melted. Be careful not to overcook because they melt quickly.
- Once melted, remove the mixture from the heat and mix in vanilla extract. Pour Rice Krispies cereal and cookies into the pot and stir until evenly incorporated. Make sure there aren’t any large clumps of melted marshmallow at the bottom of the pan. Remove from heat.
- Quickly, pour the Rice Krispies mixture into your greased pan and press down. Lightly wet or grease your hands and press them into the pan until evenly filled. Sprinkle top with extra chopped Oreo cookie pieces and gently press them into the top of the treats.
- Cover with foil or plastic wrap and chill in the freezer for about 15 minutes or at room temperature for about an hour to set before cutting.
